AIDS Awareness

Since the beginning of the epidemic, almost 71 million people have been infected with the HIV virus and about 34 million people have died of HIV. Globally, 36.9 million [34.3–41.4 million] people were living with HIV at the end of 2014. An estimated 0.8% [0.7-0.9%] of adults aged 15–49 years worldwide are living with HIV, although the burden of the epidemic continues to vary considerably between countries and regions. Sub-Saharan Africa remains most severely affected, with nearly 1 in every 20 adults (4.8%) living with HIV and accounting for nearly 70% of the people living with HIV worldwide.
-World Health Organization

The number of people living with HIV/AIDS in India is an alarming 2.4 million, according to a 2008 government-backed estimate. SAGAR Foundation's AIDS Awareness Program involves a multi-pronged sequence of events and interventions including educational, social, and medical efforts to contain the spread of HIV/AIDS, especially in rural areas and within its pediatric group. The program focus is on giving proper care and treatment to infected people, and above all, ensuring a healthy atmosphere in the society to end social stigma and ensuing social marginalization. This project benefits from the Foundation's already-established rural infrastructure of the Action for Rural Rejuvenation program and its fleet of mobile health clinics and healthcare professionals.
